Jos Distribution Electricity (JED) Plc said it would soon address the cause of the high power voltage that electrocuted six persons in Kabong community of Jos North Local Government Area.

Adakole Elijah, head of corporate communications of the company, made the promise in an interview with journalists on Wednesday in Jos.

An electricity facility malfunctioned on Saturday and electrocuted six persons, injured two, and destroyed other properties in Kabong community.

The community had also been out of power since the incident occurred.

Mr Elijah said that its technical team had commenced a thorough investigation to ascertain the cause with a view to restoring power supply in the area.

He added that the findings would serve as a guide for future occurrences.

“We believe that as soon as that is done, which will be in a couple of days from now, the company will start working toward restoring power supply to the area because we cannot afford to leave the people in darkness.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident was a result of a high-tension line snapping onto the low-tension lines, which resulted in a voltage supply outside limits.

“The source feeder tripped off and inter-tripped the transmission end source from Makeri Transmission Station,” he said.

Mr Elijah said that JED would be responsible for the treatment of those injured, adding that management of the company, led by its Chief Operating Officer, Mammanlafia Umar, had visited the families that lost their loved ones

“We have taken over responsibility for the hospital bills of those affected by the unfortunate incident.

“We have equally visited all the families of the six deceased persons and commiserated with them,” he said.

Mr Elijah appealed to members of the community to be calm, adding that the company had put all modalities on ground to forestall future occurrences.

He also appealed to them to allow its staff access to its facilities in the area, insisting that it would enable them to find a speedy solution to the problem.
