The management of Jos University Teaching Hospital has given awards to outstanding staff members to spur an efficient and proactive workforce to deliver the hospital’s mandate.

The awards ceremony took place on Saturday in Jos at the hospital’s 2024 End of Year Dinner and Awards Night.

JUTH’s chief medical director, Pokop Buptwada, said that the initiative was aimed at eliciting the best from the staff.

Mr Buptwada said the awards were given in two categories: merit and long service awards. He said the merit award was strictly performance-based, while the long service award was awarded to members of staff who had served for 32 years and above.

According to him, a merit committee chaired by Aboy Madaki was constituted to make the selections.

The CMD commended the workforce of JUTH and urged them not to rest on their oars in executing their duties effectively and efficiently.

In his goodwill message, Plateau’s health commissioner, Dr Cletus Shurkuk, described the event as “highly commendable” as it would encourage the staff members to be proactive in discharging their duties.

Tanko Ishaya, the University of Jos’s vice-chancellor, commended the JUTH CMD for appreciating the staff members, saying it would motivate them.

The 11 staff members were awarded for their outstanding performance in the merit category, while 25 others were for the long service category.
