Governor Uba Sani is committed to a bottom-up approach towards addressing security challenges just as he strives to strengthen the ongoing peace process in Kaduna State.

The Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, James Kanyip, said this during an assessment tour of the security situation in the state to get the pulse of the people affected.

He said the state government had noted that the present approach had recognised the peculiar problem of each local government instead of a blanket approach to solve every problem.

Mr Kanyip said the tour was a shift towards a more direct community engagement in addressing security challenges, adding that the engagement covered Giwa and Igabi local government areas.

The commissioner said he aimed to gather first-hand information from the communities affected by security concerns to present it to Mr Sani for prompt action.

Mr Kanyip said this hands-on approach would enable him to understand the local security dynamics, adding, “I feel that I should not be an armchair commissioner who just waits for reports.

‘’The initiative brings together a diverse group of stakeholders, including local government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and women’s organisations.

‘’ Kaduna State Government recognises the importance and role of local leaders and other stakeholders in building and sustaining peace.

“Through these interactions, we will gather valuable information that will help us in tackling the challenges we are facing.”

Mr Kanyip added that the information would aid the security agencies in their operations.

‘’This initiative represents a significant shift in the state’s security management approach, prioritising direct community engagement and localised solutions over centralised decision-making,’’ he added.

According to him, security is a collective responsibility, with the parents, women, youths, traditional rulers, and local authorities having various roles.
