Kebbi recruits 2,000 teachers to boost quality education

The Kebbi Government has recruited 2,000 teachers to enhance delivery of quality education in the state.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Halima Muhammad-Bande, stated this during an interview in Birnin Kebbi.
Ms Muhammad-Bande, who is also the Chairman of Recruitment Committee, spoke on the sidelines of presentation of letters of appointment to the newly recruited teachers on Friday in Birnin Kebbi.
She said so far, 391 teachers were shortlisted as the first batch among whom holders of degrees, Higher National Diplomas and postgraduate degrees would be deployed to post- basic schools across the state.
The commissioner noted that another set of recruited teachers’ list would soon be released, adding that the expected list would basically consist of candidates with National Certificate in Education.
She disclosed that the teacher recruitment committee received 18,000 applications and screened 4,000 applicants.
Ms Muhammad-Bande urged the newly recruited teachers to dedicate themselves to duty and contribute their quota to the development of education in the state.
She said, “A teacher in Kebbi is a king because the governor is a teacher, who knows the value of teaching. Our governor assured that this is the first trench of teacher-recruitment exercise, others will follow soon.’’
Chairman, Kebbi House Committee on Education, Muhammad Garba-Bena, lauded Governor Nasir Idris for his support which facilitated the smooth conduct of the exercise.
He stated, “We are happy that this thing is happening during a time when the teacher is in control. This recruitment exercise will continue until we have enough teachers in our schools. Therefore, I urge those candidates that were not successful during the exercise to be patient.’’
Also, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Abubakar Magaji-Nayilwa, enjoined the new teachers to give in their best for the development of education in the state and country at large.
