Kidnapping: Police kill two in Ogun
The police command in Ogun says it has killed two suspected kidnappers in a shootout around the Itori area of Ewekoro.
The command’s spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Ota, Ogun.
Mr Oyeyemi stated that the suspects met their waterloo after the police received information at about 7:30 a.m. on Sunday that armed hoodlums were hiding in a bush at the back of ICT Polytechnic, Itori.
He added that the anti-robbery team of the division stormed the bush to fish out the hoodlums, known to be a hideout for criminals.
“On sighting the policemen, the gang opened fire on them, and the policemen engaged them in a gun battle which lasted for about 40 minutes,” the police statement explained. “At the end of the encounter, two members of the syndicate were gunned down while others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.”
The police spokesman also said one locally fabricated shotgun, two live cartridges, two battle axes, and empty AK47 rifle ammunition shells were recovered.
Other items recovered were three android phones, two small phones, eight pairs of slippers, and two school bags.
Meanwhile, police commissioner Edward Ajogun has ordered a manhunt for other fleeing gang members.
He reiterated the command’s readiness to use its arsenal to make Ogun free of violent crimes.
