Kogi residents hope AEDC will sustain improved power supply
Residents of Kogi are full of praise to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for the improvement in power supply in the state in recent times.
A cross section of the residents who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lokoja described the turn of events as “commendable” for the near 24 hours power supply daily.
A secondary school Teacher, Gabriel Adewale, said that AEDC had gotten it right as the residents now enjoyed power supply almost 24 hours per day.
“In fact, the way and manner we are enjoying light nowadays is unbelievable, considering our experiences of epileptic power supply over the years.
“This dramatic but realistic change is not for up to a month in Kogi, but we hope they will keep the tempo for businesses to thrive and our economy and living standard to improve,” Mr Adewale said.
For Pastor Akubo Kizito of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Dominion Zone, “this feat achieved by AEDC is a welcome development and good omen to the state.”
“l believe the people of Kogi are ready to pay for the light in as much as the supply will be steady considering its enormous benefits.
“The welders, shoe-makers and operators of tomato grinding machines in the streets will now be making some money to take care of their families in this hard time.
“I am very convinced that the economy of many homes and communities as well as that of Kogi will be transformed,” Mr Kizito said.
A restaurant owner, Maimuna Jimoh, said her business has received a boost by the recent improvement in power supply in the state.
“I hope the electricity company will maintain this feat because we need this light more during the heat period to help us cool our drinks and the atmosphere for our customers,” Jimoh said.
AEDC spokesperson for Kogi, Ifeoma Arudi, said that the company was determined to give its customers the best of service.
“But it is very unfortunate that even with the improvement in power supply, some customers are still not willing to pay their bills as expected.
“What we need is their (consumers’) cooperation in paying their bills, which will go a long way in helping us to keep the tempo.
“When electricity consumers do not pay for what they consume, it will be difficult for us to serve them better.
“We pay for the energy we supply to the public as a private liability company,” she explained.
