Labour Crises: El-Rufai sacks all Kaduna nurses, lecturers

Governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai has ordered that nurses below grade level 14 and lecturers of Kaduna State University who are participating in the on-going strike action and protests by Organised Labour be disengaged from civil service.
Mr El-Rufai declared the mass dismissal as a response to the agitations of Kaduna State workers against the mass dismissal of their colleagues among other issues.
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in Kaduna had earlier declared a five-day warning strike action against the state government in response to the recent dismissal of thousands of workers amidst COVID-19 recovery and rising economic hardship across the state.
Since Monday, offices, banks and essential services such as electricity, banks and markets were shut in solidarity with the strike. A crowd of marchers led by NLC has also been demontrating along major streets in the Kaduna metropolis.
Mr El-Rufai has since insisted that the protest would not deter his government from its decision. He likened the action of the striking workers to the criminal activities of bandits and accused them of economic sabotage while declaring NLC President Ayuba Wabba wanted.
