Labour Party supporter Chude regains freedom from police custody

Nnamdi Chude, a supporter of the Labour Party, who was incarcerated over an unflattering tweet that allegedly put the Charles Soludo-led government in bad light, has regained freedom.
“Dear Nigerians, I thank you all for your love, kindness and solidarity while I was held in detention,” Mr Chude tweeted on Friday evening. “I am most humbled and honoured for your relentless demand for my release.”
In addition, Mr Chude posted a video apologising to Emeka Offor over a previous tweet. Peoples Gazette could not independently verify if the apology was demanded by Mr Offor or whether it was of Mr Chude’s volition.
“I want to apologise to Sir Emeka Offor over the tweet I made. As at the time I made the tweet, it was unverified and it wasn’t to malign his name in any way, Mr Chude said in the video.
“I am just a concerned Nigerian for democracy. I thought I should lend my voice for good governance and I hold him in high esteem as a respected Ibo leader,” he added.
Mr Chude, on Saturday, was arrested swiftly by security operatives in Onitsha, barely two hours after he compared the Anambra state government under Mr Soludo to the crime-tainted tenure of former governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju.
The police on Wednesday admitted to detaining Mr Chude over an alleged cyberstalking crime but did not reveal the person(s) who filed the petition.
“He is being investigated by the Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC) Abuja, for cyberstalking, pursuant to a complaint received via a petition,” the police said in a statement on Wednesday.
