Residents of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Saturday turned out en masse for the third environmental sanitation exercise since the programme was reintroduced across Lagos State.

The exercise involved residents, traders, artisans, transport operators, and community leaders.

They cleaned their homes, markets, roadsides, and drainage channels across the community.

Residents expressed satisfaction with the initiative.

Felix Chukwu said: “This exercise helps us live healthier lives, and I am proud to contribute to keeping Ojokoro clean for our children.”

He noted that the participation of neighbours fostered unity.

“When we all come together to sweep and clear refuse, it strengthens community bonds and teaches the younger generation responsibility,” Mr Chukwu added.

Another resident, Deborah Anjorin, said the council’s support through the provision of trucks and supervision demonstrated its commitment.

She said residents must continue to play their part daily to sustain the effort.

Titi Ayo said she joined her neighbours in sweeping and clearing drains.

She stressed that the collective effort brought joy and strengthened community spirit.

The Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Oluyemisi Rosiji, represented by the Vice Chairman, Tunde Oyekunle, said he was impressed with the turnout.

He particularly commended residents of Bamgboye Community, where both the young and the elderly embraced the responsibility of keeping their environment clean.

“Residents must make cleanliness a daily habit, dispose of waste properly and avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage channels.

“This will help prevent flooding and maintain a healthy environment,” he said.

The Council Manager, Idowu Banjoko, appreciated the chairman for providing compactor trucks.

He noted that the prompt evacuation of refuse prevented blackspots and ensured a cleaner environment after the exercise.

Mr Banjoko said refuse blackspots across Ojokoro LCDA were cleared as part of the exercise.

According to him, this ensured cleaner surroundings and improved public health conditions for residents.

He said the exercise reinforced the importance of collective responsibility.

Mr Banjoko added that sustained community participation and government support were vital to achieving long-term environmental impact.
