The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) says it will demolish distressed buildings adjoining the Alakija Bus Stop collapse site.

The agency said the exercise followed ongoing search, rescue and recovery operations at the scene in Satellite Town, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area.

It said a joint structural assessment by LASEMA, the Lagos State Building Control Agency and other emergency responders identified the adjoining buildings as unsafe.

According to the agency, the distressed structures pose a serious risk to emergency responders, nearby residents and the general public.

LASEMA said the demolition would be supervised by relevant authorities to prevent any secondary structural collapse.

It advised residents and members of the public to stay away from the affected area during the exercise.

The agency also urged motorists and residents to comply with traffic and safety directives issued by emergency officials throughout the operation.

LASEMA appreciated residents for their understanding and cooperation, assuring them that all decisions made on site were aimed at safeguarding lives and property.

It added that further updates would be provided as the controlled demolition and other emergency operations progressed.
