Lawal raises 15-man committee to probe fire incident after death of 17 almajirai

Mr Tudu said that the committee would also suggest appropriate support for those affected to facilitate recovery.

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has approved the constitution of a 15-man committee to investigate the cause of the recent fire incident at a Qur’anic School in the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of the state. 

The incident claimed the lives of 17 almajirai.

This is contained in a statement issued in Gusau on Saturday by the Senior Special Assistant on Media,

Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Suleiman Tudu. 

The Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Nakwada, said that the committee was mandated to assess the level of damages and recommend measures to prevent the recurrence of such unfortunate incidents.

He said the committee would also suggest appropriate support for those affected to facilitate recovery.

According to the SSG, the committee will also help the government in implementing proactive safety measures across other similar schools and public places in the state in line with the National Fire Safety Code.

The committee has Prof. Jafaru Makau-Kaura as Chairman with members including Sheikh Ahmad Kanoma, Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters.

Others are the  hairman, state hisbah commission and representatives of the ministry of religious Affairs and Ministry of Education, Science and technology.

Other members include representatives from the ministry of local government affairs, three members from the state Ulama Consultative Council, representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, State Security Services, NSCDC and the Department of Fire Service, among others.

Mr Nakwada said that the secretary of the Ulama Consultative Council would serve as secretary of the committee.

The SSG said the  committee would commence its assignment with immediate effect.
