The Federal Ministry of Education says a so-called publication ‘Living History’ is not on its approved list of textbooks for use in Nigerian schools.

The ministry said the book was neither approved nor recommended for use. The ministry made this clarification in a statement.

It explained that the textbook was never submitted to the National Educational Research and Development Council for review and evaluation under the national curriculum.

The statement noted that the book was therefore not recommended by NERDC. It cautioned that the publication is not on the official list of approved history textbooks.

It added that consultations with NERDC leadership confirmed that the textbook was not among the instructional materials endorsed for nationwide use.

The ministry urged parents, teachers, school proprietors and the public to disregard misinformation and refrain from using the book in schools.

The ministry warned that the use of unapproved instructional materials could undermine curriculum standards and negatively affect teaching quality and learning outcomes.

It added that all approved textbooks align with the national curriculum and reflect Nigeria’s cultural diversity, shared history and core national values.

The ministry advised stakeholders to verify textbook approval status through official channels, including the NERDC.
