An Area Court in Jos on Monday sentenced Kuba Nuhu to 12 months imprisonment for breaking into his neighbour’s house and stealing his mother’s Itel Android phone worth N 80,000.

The area court judge, Irene Pati, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty. The judge, however, gave the convict an option of a N50,000 fine.

She also ordered the convict to pay N15,000 as compensation to his mother.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported at the “A” Division police station on March 4 by Abraham Okwoli.

The prosecutor further told the court that the accused confessed to the crime during the police investigation.

The offence, he said, contravened the Plateau Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria in 2017.
