Mechanic arraigned over alleged N2.7 million SUV repair fraud

The police in Lagos on Tuesday, charged a 40-year-old mechanic, Ikechukwu Madu, before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, over an alleged N2.7million fraud.
Madu, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 20, at 8.00.p.m., at Ajara Torikoh area of Badagry.
Mr Ekpo alleged that the defendant collected the sum of N2.7 million from a complainant, one Awegnonde Bidossessi, for the repair of his Range Rover, which he failed to execute.
He alleged that the defendant instead converted the money to his personal use.
“He was later arrested and handed over to police,” he said.
The offences contravene the provisions of Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with three sureties in like sum.
The court ordered that one of the sureties must be a company director.
He adjourned the case until May 7, for mention.
