Nephew arrested for allegedly paying N900,000 to kidnap aunt in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has paraded Chukwuemeka Destiny for allegedly paying N900,000 to facilitate the kidnapping of his aunt, who raised and cared for him from the age of five until he left her home at 15.
Disclosing this in a video shared on X on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, Edafe Bright, said the suspects he contacted for the operation instead turned him in to the police.
Mr Edafe said, “Today, we’re with a 31-year-old suspect who was brought into the house by the aunt when he was just 5-years-old, and stayed with her till he was about 15-years-old, when he said he wanted to leave and he left.
“All of a sudden, something just came to his mind that, let me kidnap my aunty who trained me and saw me through school. That was what he did, paid N200,000 installment and N700,000, making it N900,000, unknown to him that the people he contacted were not kidnappers, they rather used him as bait, got him and handed him over to the police, thereby saving the life of his aunty.”
Confessing to his crime, the suspect said, “Sincerely speaking to you, I am guilty of what really happened. I don’t know what came over me, I can’t tell. I made a deposit of N200,000 at first, then the next day I deposited N700,000, making it N900,000.”
When asked how he got the money, the suspect, who said he has a wife and two children, claimed to be a businessman involved in trucking and building materials.
The aunt, who confirmed she is the sister of the suspect’s mother, said she raised him from childhood but lost contact after he left her home, although she occasionally saw him around her neighbourhood.
She added that she was shocked to learn of his involvement in the plot and urged the police to ensure that justice is served.
