NFF clarifies Super Eagles’ accommodation controversy, says viral video misinterpreted

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed social media claims suggesting that Nigeria’s Super Eagles were lodged in substandard accommodation ahead of their 2026 CAF World Cup playoff semifinal against Gabon in Rabat, Morocco.
A short video shared on Monday by midfielder Alex Iwobi appeared to show a rundown environment allegedly connected to the team’s hotel.
The footage quickly went viral, drawing public criticism about the perceived quality of the players’ lodging.
However, the NFF through a team official clarified that the video had been misinterpreted and did not reflect the team’s actual accommodation.
The Super Eagles Media Officer, Promise Efoghe, said that the team was comfortably housed at a modern four-star facility.
“The Super Eagles are camped at Rive Hotel. What trended earlier was the view of an old building that can be seen from a window,” Mr Efoghe said.
“Rive was chosen because of its proximity to the team’s training facility and the stadium here in Rabat,” he added.
Mr Efoghe also confirmed that the Rive Hotel was approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for its standard amenities, security, and convenience in relation to training and match venues.
Nigeria will face Gabon in the CAF World Cup playoff semifinal on Thursday, with the winner set to meet either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final.
The eventual champion will represent Africa at the FIFA Intercontinental Playoff scheduled for March 2026 in Mexico.
