The Rivers Ijaw People’s Congress says Nigeria is doing well under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, according to a statement read at a press conference in Port Harcourt on Monday.

The statement was read by the group’s leader, George Sekibo.

In the statement co-signed by the director-general of the group, Rowland Sekibo, and the secretary, Erastus Awortu, Mr Sekibo said that Tinubu had set Nigeria on a course for steady progress.

He said that the president had opened new corridors for the promotion of cross-country commerce and the growth of medium and small-scale businesses.

Mr Sekibo said that Mr Tinubu’s performance required a second term in office, saying, “This is critical for the consolidation of the Renewed Hope Agenda. It is the collective decision of the Rivers Ijaw people to urge the president to declare his intention for re-election.

“This decision is the outcome of a conscious deliberation and reflection on Tinubu’s achievements in human capital, economic and infrastructure development, amongst others. On behalf of the Rivers Ijaw people, we, hereby, proudly adopt Tinubu as our presidential candidate come 2027,” he said.

He said that re-electing the president would pave the way for sustainability and consolidation of his goals and achievements.

Mr Sekibo said that the establishment of the University of Environment and Technology, the completion of Bodo-Bonny Road and the ongoing East-West Road rehabilitation were confirmations of Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of Rivers people.

He commended the president for appointing no fewer than 30 Rivers indigenes into positions of authority in his administration.
