Nigerian youngster Ibrahim Umar opts for Chelsea ahead of potential transfer

Nigerian youngster Ibrahim Hafiz Umar has opted to trial at Premier League side Chelsea despite a €500,000 agreement between Lagos-based Ojudu City Academy and Norwegian club Bodø/Glimt.
The 18-year-old caught the attention of many clubs in Europe after scoring 10 goals in six matches at the 74th edition of the Viareggio Cup in Italy last month – they have been trying to sign the player since then.
After the tournament, Umar travelled to Bodø/Glimt for trial and to eventually sign for the club, but a last-minute approach from Chelsea convinced the player to have a change of heart.
Football journalist Fabrizio Romano said on Monday that Umar chose Chelsea despite a transfer agreement between Ojudu City Academy and Bodø/Glimt to buy the player.
He will train with Chelsea for the next few weeks, after which the West London-based club is expected to decide whether to sign him.
