NLC, NULGE laud Sokoto govt. over N70,000 minimum wage implementation
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Sokoto State chapters, have lauded the state government for implementing the N70,000 minimum wage.
The NLC state chairman, Aliyu Jangul, and his NULGE counterpart, Ibrahim Abubakar, made the commendation at a joint press conference on Wednesday in Sokoto.
Mr Jangul refuted the statement made by NULGE national president, Ali Haruna-Kankara, that Sokoto State was one of the states in the federation that had yet to implement the new minimum wage.
According to him, Gov. Ahmad Aliyu has fully implemented the payment of the new minimum wage to all categories of civil servants since January.
”We must set the record straight, Sokoto State was the first in the entire federation to fully implement the new minimum wage.
”We were part of the verification committee that fished out ghost workers.
“This was a key part of the preparations before the new salary structure was rolled out,” he said.
The two labour leaders commended the governor for striving to implement the new Minimum Wage Act.
They described him as a worker-friendly governor and urged him to sustain the good relationship as well as take steps to improve their welfare.
