NOA urged to boost investment in voter education to tackle apathy

A former vice-chairman of Bwari Area Council in the FCT, Abubakar Jafaru, has underscored the need for the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to adequately invest in voter education to tackle apathy.
Mr Jafaru stated this during an interview with journalists on Sunday in Bwari against the backdrop of the general apathy that trailed Saturday’s FCT area council elections.
He said, “Men, women and youths all are came out here to cast their votes in order to ensure they choose the chairman and ward councillors of their choice.
“Therefore, I am urging NOA to come out a week before future elections to sensitise people about the importance of voting in elections; to let more people participate actively in future electoral processes.”
This, according to him, will enable people to better understand what government programmes are all about and ways forward.
On the use of the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) at polling units, Mr Jafaru acknowledged that no issues were recorded during the election period.
“I believe that in 2027, people will come out and cast their vote during the presidential and national assembly elections in larger numbers.
“I don’t think there was any problem with BVAS because I did my thumbprint as other people did before voting, and it was okay. Most people cast their votes without any problem,” Mr Jafaru said.
