Nottingham Forest have been promoted to the English Premier League (EPL) for the first time in 23 years.

This was after they secured a 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town in the Championship playoff final at Wembley on Sunday.

An own goal from Huddersfield defender Levi Colwill was enough for Nottingham Forest to secure victory in the play-off final dubbed the “richest game in football.”

This is due to the prize of a place in the EPL, alongside the lucrative broadcasting deals and prize money that come with it.

Nottingham Forest broke the deadlock at the end of a tense first half as James Garner curled in a cross toward midfielder Ryan Yates which Colwill turned into his own net.

Huddersfield pushed for an equaliser and were denied a penalty kick in the 73rd minute.

This was when defender Harry Toffolo went down just inside the Nottingham Forest penalty area under the outstretched leg of Jack Colback.

Nottingham Forest, who were playing at Wembley for the first time since its redevelopment in 2007, held on for a narrow victory.

They will now re-take their place in the EPL for the first time since 1999.
