NSCDC rescues three-year-old girl, nabs alleged human traffickers

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps command in Abia says it has arrested two suspects for child trafficking and abduction in Aba.
In a statement on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, Doreen Udugwu, said the suspects were 24-year-old Uche Royal and 20-year-old Chidera Donatus.
Ms Udugwu stated that Ms Donatus, a native of Nenwe in Agwu LGA of Enugu, and Ms Royal from Ohaji council area of Imo, were arrested on December 26, following credible intelligence.
During the operation, she said the command also rescued a three-year-old girl, Chiamaka Ahamefula, from Ukpaka Ukwu in Umuahia.
Ms Udugwu said investigations revealed that Donatus was introduced to Ms Royal by another suspect, Danji, who resided in Aba but is now at large. She said that investigations revealed that the suspects had been in the illicit business for some time.
She also mentioned that the NSCDC commandant in Abia, Akinsola Aderemi, had reaffirmed the command’s commitment to “smoke out” criminals.
Mr Aderemi said upon the completion of investigations, the case would be transferred to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons to prosecute the suspects.
“I am calling on parents to take responsibility for the proper upbringing of their children,” she said.
