NYSC confirms release of another abducted corps member, driver in Zamfara
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) said it has secured the release of another female prospective corps member (PCM) and driver among prospective NYSC members kidnapped in Zamfara on their way to orientation camp in Sokoto.
The NYSC director, press and public relations, Eddy Megwa, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
Eight PCMs and their bus driver were abducted in August 2023 in Zamfara on their way from Uyo, Akwa Ibom, to Sokoto.
They were going for the one-year national service.
Mr Megwa stated that “the combined efforts of NYSC and the military witnessed further release of another female PCM.
“Also released is the driver of the bus conveying the PCMs to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Sokoto State last year.
“This brings the total number of PCMs released to five, while efforts are still ongoing to ensure that the remaining three (one female and two males) still in captivity regain their freedom soonest.
“The Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed appreciates the security agents for their untiring efforts that resulted in the release of the PCMs.”
Mr Megwa added that the scheme would never shun its responsibility of upholding the welfare of youth corps members at all times.
