OFFICIAL: Giroud joins AC Milan from Chelsea

French striker, Olivier Giroud, has moved from Chelsea to AC Milan in a permanent transfer deal completed on Saturday. 

The 34-year-old who is considered one of the most underrated striker in the world is set to pick up the number 9 jersey in AC Milan after a successful career in Stamford Bridge.

Giroud expressed his appreciation via a tweet to Chelsea on Friday describing their wins at the Champions League, FA Cup and Europa league as magnificent. 

“To all the Blues, to my teammates, to all my coaches, to the whole club, a huge thank you for these special moments.

“I’m starting a new journey with a light and happy heart. Our victories in FA Cup, Europa League and Champions league have been magnificent,” he tweeted. 

AC Milan say it is excited by the arrival of Giroud in a statement released on Saturday on their official website, highlighting the giant strides of the French player.

The statement read: “AC Milan is delighted to announce the signing of Olivier Jonathan Giroud on a permanent transfer from Chelsea FC. The French striker will be wearing the number 9 jersey.”

Born in Chambéry (France) on September 30th 1986, Olivier Giroud spent his youth career with Grenoble and made his first team debut in 2005. 

After playing for Istres and Tours, Giroud moved to Ligue 1 club, Montpellier, where he scored 39 goals in 85 appearances in two years.

He won the league with the team in 2011/12. 

In the summer of 2012, he moved to Arsenal.

At Arsenal, Giroud scored 105 goals in 253 games, winning 3 FA Cups and 3 Community Shields. 

In January 2018, Giroud moved to Chelsea FC, with whom he scored 39 goals in 119 appearances, winning one Champions League, one Europa League and 1 FA Cup.

Giroud made his debut with the France senior squad in November 2011. He scored 46 goals in 110 appearances, winning the World Cup in 2018 with the national side.
