Ogun to deploy Amotekun Corps to protect COVID vaccines

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun said he will deploy operatives of Amotekun operatives to protect the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
Mr. Abiodun during a meeting with the 20 Local Government chairmen on Thursday said the state government will ensure the security challenge bedevilling some parts of the country would not hinder the vaccination of residents.
The governor in a series of tweets disclosed that solar-powered cold chains have been installed for the COVID-19 vaccine, and priority will be given to health care workers.
He called for better synergy between the federal and state health authorities as his government is ready to resolve already existing challenges including water supply, good condition of equipment in the Accident and Emergency ward at federal facilities.
“In addition to the Peace Committee, we will first launch the Amotekun security outfit in Yewa in the coming weeks. We will also rehabilitate the Papalanto-Ilaro Road, as well as construct link roads in other areas,” Mr. Abiodun said.
Nigeria received 3.94 million doses of
Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines on Tuesday.
Presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, earlier on Saturday confirmed to Peoples Gazette that President Buhari and his Vice, Yemi Osibanjo will take a shot of the vaccine on Thursday.
