The Ondo/Ekiti area command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has trained its officers on transparency and accountability during official duties.

This is contained in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday in Akure by the command’s public relations officer (PRO), Superintendent Aondoakura Dzungwenen.

Mr Dzungwenen said the aim of the training was to boost officers’ capacity, deepen professionalism, enhance compliance and consolidate public trust in the operations of the service.

The PRO said the five-day training aligned with the strategic vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi.

According to him, it also aligns with the vision of the management of the service to foster a culture of excellence, efficiency and integrity across all formations of the service.

“The programme featured intensive modules on reputation management; intelligence gathering and risk management; stakeholder relations (engagement); enforcement procedures; operational engagement and review of the Public Service Rules.

“The impact of the training is expected to reflect immediately in the daily operations with better stakeholder coordination, especially with traders; freight forwarders and community members.

“It will also enhance risk assessment and response strategies, and ensure strict adherence to extant public service rules and operational guidelines for more responsive and transparent interaction with the public,” he said.

Mr Dzungwenen said the area controller, Comptroller Queen Obaze, while addressing participants, emphasised that the evolving nature of NCS operations demands constant learning, ethical conduct and proactive service delivery.

According to him, Ms Obaze reiterated the need to foster a responsive and accountable workforce, while the training is not just a refresher course but a call to renew diligence, integrity and public service.

The PRO urged the public, especially stakeholders within the South-West region, to support the service by complying with NCS regulations.

“The public should report any unethical practice and collaborate openly with officers during legitimate operations.

“We remain open to feedback, as we are committed to continuous improvement and citizen-focused service delivery.

“The command reassures its dedication and stands ready to play its vital role in facilitating legitimate trade, enhancing national security and driving economic development,” Mr Dzungwenen said.
