The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Osun on Saturday rejected what it described as the imposition of a caretaker committee, calling instead for an election to produce new officials.

Members of the council said the IPAC national body constituted a caretaker committee without consulting stakeholders, rather than organising a fresh election following the expiration of the tenure of the last executive in February.

Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Tosin Odeyemi, who spoke on behalf of the council, said the national body failed to conduct the election after the tenure of the previous executives elapsed.

Mr Odeyemi explained that the election, initially scheduled for March 14, was stalled due to the absence of the committee mandated to conduct it.

“The National Organising Secretary of IPAC, Chinyere Kalu, later informed stakeholders that the election had been postponed and that a new date would be communicated in due course.

“Since then, there has been no further communication from the IPAC national secretariat. The state secretariat is not functioning, and there is effectively nowhere to direct official correspondence,” he said.

He called for the immediate conduct of a credible election to produce new officials, stressing that members desired a transparent and inclusive process.

“In the interest of a transparent IPAC in Nigeria, we call for the resignation of members of the National Executive Committee.

“This is because they have displayed incompetence and insensitivity to the yearnings of the majority of council members, contrary to the duties they undertook when elected.

“We wish to state unequivocally that what we want in Osun is a free, fair and inclusive IPAC election.

“We reject the composition of this illegal caretaker committee, and we insist it cannot stand,” he said.
