The Police Community Relations Committee has commended the Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police Force for transparency in recruitment.

A statement by the spokesperson of the PCRC, Olayemi Esan, on Tuesday said that Ibraheem Olaniyan, the national chairman of the committee, gave the commendation during an assessment visit to the recruitment centre in Abuja.

Mr Olaniyan described the exercise in Abuja as transparent and inclusive. He said the PCRC was actively participating in the nationwide screening exercise, in collaboration with the PSC and other stakeholders.

According to him, this is the first time the PSC has formally involved the PCRC in the recruitment process, and it is a significant step towards strengthening public trust and accountability.

”The presence of key officials, including zonal and FCT PCRC leaders, senior police officers, and representatives of civil society organisations, is aimed at ensuring fairness and protecting the rights of indigenous applicants.

”This collaborative approach is designed to prevent irregularities and guarantee that recruitment slots meant for FCT indigenes are not taken by applicants from other states,” he said.

Mr Olaniyan expressed confidence in the potential of the applicants and described them as ”the best set of police constables in the history of Nigeria”.

The PCRC national chairman congratulated the applicants in advance and encouraged them to remain focused throughout the screening stages.

He commended the inspector general of police, Olatunji Disu, for his commitment to improving the welfare and development of junior police officers.

According to him, Mr Disu prioritises the needs of personnel at the grassroots and maintains a strong interest in their progress.

He commended the leadership of the PSC for facilitating the recruitment of 50,000 constables at once, adding that it was an initiative unprecedented in the history of police recruitment.

Mr Olaniyan expressed optimism that the ongoing exercise would produce competent and dedicated officers who would contribute meaningfully to national security.
