Poland detains two Ukrainians accused of spying on military sites
Poland’s intelligence service has detained two Ukrainian nationals accused of spying on military facilities for a foreign secret service.
The suspects, a 32-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, were arrested in the southern Polish city of Katowice, a spokesman said on X on Monday.
They were alleged to have installed devices to monitor critical infrastructure in Poland, particularly transport infrastructure used to provide logistical and military support to Ukraine.
A court has ordered both suspects to be held in pre-trial detention for three months.
Poland, a member of the European Union and NATO, is one of the closest political and military allies of its neighbour, Ukraine, which is under attack from Russia.
The country also serves as a key logistical hub for Western military aid to Kyiv.
Warsaw considers itself at risk from Russia.
A week ago, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the Polish intelligence service had detained eight individuals suspected of planning acts of sabotage.
