Police arraign salesman for stealing recharge cards
A 35-year-old salesman, Samuel Williams, was on Wednesday arraigned in a Kaduna chief magistrate’s court for stealing recharge cards worth N1.7 million belonging to his employer.
Mr Williams is facing a charge of breach of trust and stealing.
The prosecutor, Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between July and September at Barnawa Complex, Kaduna.
Mr Leo said the defendant was employed by the complainant, Nurudeen Ayodele, as a salesman for his recharge card business.
The prosecutor said when the complainant decided to take stock of the cards, he discovered discrepancies in the proceeds.
He told the court that it was discovered that the defendant had stolen recharge cards worth N1.7 million from the complainant.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
He said the sureties should be gainfully employed and must show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Kaduna government.
The case was adjourned until December 18 for a hearing.
