PSG, Dortmund overcome home deficits to reach UCL semi-finals; Barcelona, Atletico beaten in Spain
Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund are through to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, while Barcelona and Atletico Madrid crashed out.
PSG overcame a 3-2 deficit against Barcelona in Paris last week to secure an emphatic 4-1 win over 10-man Barcelona in the second leg in Spain on Tuesday night. The team reached the last four on an aggregate 6-4 scoreline.
Kylian Mbappe scored twice in the game, while Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha scored PSG’s remaining goals. On the other hand, Raphinha scored Barcelona’s only goal.
The Catalans were reduced to 10-man less than 30 minutes into the match after Ronald Araujo brought down Bradley Barcola, who was through on goal.
He was not the only man sent off; manager Xavi was also given the marching order.
Also in Spain, Dortmund put behind them last week a 2-1 first-leg home defeat to Atletico to secure a 4-2 (5-4 on aggregate) revenge win against the Spanish side in Madrid tonight.
Julian Brandt opened the scoring for Dortmund in the 34th minute before Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen doubled the lead with a nice shot into the bottom corner of the net.
Four minutes after the break, Atletico pulled one back following Mats Hummels’ own goal while Angel Correa brought the host back to life with his 64th-minute goal, but that did not last long.
Dortmund scored twice in the 71st and 74th minute through Niclas Fullkrug and Marcel Sabizter with a powerful shot to seal the victory for the 2013 Champions League finalists.
PSG and Dortmund will face each other for a place in the London final
