A member of the House of Representatives representing Pankshin/Kanam/Kanke in Plateau State, Yusuf Gagdi, has vowed to support Governor Caleb Mutfwang to end killings in the state.

Mr Gagdi said this in a post he shared on his Facebook page on Monday during a condolence visit to the governor over killings in different parts of the state which resulted in the displacement of people and destruction of properties worth millions.

He wrote, “I stated that never again will we allow these to happen in our locality. And we must all vow to play our part in ensuring the sanctity of human lives is protected.’’

Mr Gagdi, accompanied by the head of the delegation of the caucus, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, condemned the killings, describing them as “barbaric, senseless, and vicious acts.”

The lawmaker promised that as an institution, they would throw their support behind the Plateau State government.

“In our capacity as lawmakers, we will play our part with vigour to support institutions and individuals in their roles to ensure lasting peace in our region,” he added.

Mr. Gagdi, a supporter of the All Progressives Congress, was a member of the opposition against the Peoples Democratic Party, especially during the 2023 general elections.

In several videos on social media, the lawmaker was seen talking about how his party, the ruling APC, would defeat the PDP in Plateau State.

In a twist of events, the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the PDP, affirming the victory of Governor Caleb Mutfwang in January.

Mr Gagdi’s U-turn and support for the Mutfwang-led administration have attracted reactions.

While some see it as a spirit of sportsmanship, some doubted his intentions.

“Some people are still childish, forgetting that politics is over; the time for governance is now. You’re there insulting someone whom your entire generation will not even come closer to in all aspects of life. Please learn how to address people, especially when they are above you, knowing that they are parents to some people. Instead, pray for our leaders,” Binkam Solomon said on Facebook.

“You came to see the governor in a few months, right??? Eight years is your mate?” another person, Dunka Gowap, said also on Facebook.
