Riot: CP Mba storms Sagamu with police, soldiers; 27 suspects arrested

The police in Ogun have arrested 27 suspects alleged to have wreaked havoc in the Sagamu area of the state over the rejection of old naira notes by banks.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Frank Mba, led a team of police officers and soldiers to quell the unrest.
There was chaos in Sagamu on Monday morning. Residents had barricaded the Akarigbo-Sabo road over their inability to withdraw new naira notes from banks.
The angry youth invaded the local government secretariat in Sagamu, where the mace of the Ogun State legislative arm was stolen.
Peoples Gazette had earlier reported that protesters set some banks ablaze for rejecting the old naira notes.
The protesters also made bonfires on the road, while tearing up campaign posters and damaging billboards belonging to Governor Dapo Abiodun, and the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state’s police spokesperson, said that 27 suspects were arrested by a team led by Mr Mba.
He assured residents that normalcy has been restored in Sagamu
“Normalcy has been restored in greater parts of Sagamu now. CP Frank Mba is personally leading police teams and some military men to tackle the situation,” Mr Oyeyemi said in a brief statement on Monday. “About 27 suspects had been arrested.”
