The Apo Legislative Quarters central mosque committee has terminated the appointment of Sheikh Nuru Khalid as the Chief Imam for being unremorseful after his suspension.

“We regret to inform you that today the 4th of April 2023, you have been disengaged from the services of the above-mentioned mosque.

“This action is occasioned by non-remorseful attitude you exhibited following your suspension on 2nd of April this year,” partly reads the letter titled “letter of disengagement from the services of national assembly mosque,” addressed to sheikh Khalid and seen by Peoples Gazette.

The Gazette on Saturday reported that the imam was suspended for criticising the Buhari regime whose laxity in tackling insecurity, emboldened bandits to bomb the Abuja-Kaduna train.

Sheikh Khalid had condemned Mr Buhari’s lack of empathy for the victims in his Juma’at sermon.

He said it was odd that the same president who campaigned for votes in Kaduna was yet to visit the state since the bombing that caused several deaths, with scores still missing.

The imam’s remarks earned him an immediate suspension from the Apo mosque committee who said the sermon “incited public outrage” and opposed the tenets of Islam.

However, the sheikh who was undaunted by the suspension said only God had the power to give and take away.

“God is the most powerful. He gives and takes away power from whomever He wishes,” said an unperturbed Sheik Khalid.

“Oh God! The master of sovereignty, you give sovereignty to whom you please, and seize sovereignty from whom you please, you honour whom you please and you abase whom you please, all good is in your hands, indeed you have power over all things,” the islamic cleric continued.

Deeming his post-suspension remarks as unremorseful, the Apo mosque committee sacked sheikh khalid.

“Unfortunately, your media reaction to the suspension creates the impression that you are not remorseful, NOT to talk of humbly reflecting on the consequences of your utterances,” the disengagement letter reads.
