Sokoto govt. buys N100 million building for IDPs’ settlement

The Sokoto State executive council has approved the purchase of a N100 million building to accommodate Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state capital.
This was disclosed to newsmen in Sokoto on Wednesday as part of the council’s latest resolutions.
Presenting the resolution, the commissioner for basic education, Ahmad Ladan, explained that the decision followed a request by the owner of the building currently occupied by IDPs to sell the property.
“The State Executive Council, under the leadership of Gov. Ahmed Aliyu, deliberated extensively on the matter and resolved to purchase the building to ensure the proper settlement of the IDPs.
“This move will significantly support the government’s efforts to provide necessary assistance and ensure proper identification and integration of the IDPs,” he said.
Also speaking, the commissioner for lands and housing, Nasiru Dantsoho, announced the council’s approval of N3.6 billion for the rehabilitation of 27 dual carriage roads across the state metropolis.
“N2.7 billion has been earmarked for the reconstruction of roads washed away during the last rainy season, specifically from Margai to Kebbe, and an additional stretch from Gada to Kebbe in Kebbe Local Government Area.
“In addition, the council approved N123.6 million for the reconstruction of Zurmi Road in the state capital,” Mr Dantsoho said.
