Hunters from Saminaka village in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto, have besieged neighbouring forests in search of bandits who invaded their abode on Sunday, killing no fewer than six people.

Most of the men in Saminaka, who are hunters, had gone hunting when the bandits attacked in the wee hours of Sunday, according to a report by Daily Trust.

A source told the newspaper that among the victims, two were married women.

“They shot two women to death and slaughtered four young men,” the newspaper quoted the source to have said, adding, “all vigilantes and Yan Sakai in the area are now in the bush, searching for the assailants.

The attack on Saminaka came barely 24 hours after brigands invaded Tangaza town but met their Waterloo.

An angry mob killed and burnt the corpses of the 13 bandits who had attacked and killed people in Tangaza town on Saturday, The Gazette learnt.

Police spokesman in the state, Abubakar Sanusi, told The Gazette that he is yet to be officially informed about the incident.

“I am yet to receive official information on the claim. And you know we don’t usually speak based on unverified report,” Mr Sanusi said, stating that “there are certain methodology we used to investigate, and the outcome will be revealed to you.”

Mr Abubakar however, frowned that villagers of Tangaza earlier took laws into their hands by killing the suspected bandits.

The police in Sokoto Saturday confirmed the killing of one person and abduction of several others after bandits attacked a community in Tangaza Local Government Area of the state.
