Students of Government Secondary School, Asamabiri, in Sagbama LGA in Bayelsa, have commended the Education Development Trust Fund for including their school in its ongoing intervention programme.

The EDTF is spearheading the initiative, which aims to provide potable water in public schools across the state.

The students spoke during the commissioning of a 9,000-litre capacity water project, delivered in partnership with the Sustainable Partnership Initiative for Development.

They noted that the initiative has put an end to their long-standing water challenges and is expected to improve their living conditions and academic performance.

Speaking shortly after the commissioning, several students, including Oputa Loveth, Aganaba Treasure, and Tombri Olaere, commended the EDTF for an “uncommon commitment” to student welfare and quality education.

The principal of school, Edwin Moses, pledged that the facility would be properly used and maintained.

He added that the water project would likely encourage more teachers and NYSC members posted to the school to reside in the community, assured that their welfare is being prioritised.

The commissioner for education, represented by the director of exams and records, Monday Eke, said the Bayelsa government was pleased with the EDTF’s impact and encouraged the fund to sustain the momentum of educational development across Bayelsa.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the paramount ruler of Asamabiri, Joseph Odoni, and members of the EDTF board, including John Angese, secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Bayelsa chapter.
