The Obidient Movement, a support group of Peter Obi, has berated Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, over his threat warning former presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, against campaigning in the South-West ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.

“The Obidient Movement has watched with deep concern the viral video of Sunday Igboho threatening Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi against campaigning in the South-West, and vowing to push for an unconstitutional third term for President Tinubu,’ the pro-Obi group said in a statement on Monday.

Mr Igboho, in a viral video on Sunday, had threatened Messrs Obi and Atiku and their supporters to stay away from Lagos and the rest of Yoruba land ahead of the forthcoming elections.

The activist, who vowed to ensure President Bola Tinubu’s continued stay in office even beyond 2027, declared support for the president, insisting no one would support and vote for any other candidates in the South-West in 2027.

However, Mr Obi’s support group slammed Mr Igboho’s threat as ill-founded and described the Yoruba Nation agitator as an enemy of democracy.

“Let us be clear: Nigeria belongs to ALL Nigerians. No single individual, no matter how loud, has the power to declare any part of this country a no-go zone for democratic activity. The South-West is not a private estate. It is home to millions of free-thinking Nigerians who will vote for whoever they choose.

“The right of every Nigerian to move freely, campaign, and participate in elections across all 36 states and the FCT is guaranteed by our Constitution. Anyone who threatens to take that away is an enemy of democracy, full stop!,” it stated.

The pro-Obi group further dismissed the “third term” agenda canvassed by Mr Igboho as purely unconstitutional, noting it insulted Nigerians who had fought and died for democratic survival in the country.

It added, “And let us address the madness of a “third term” agenda. This is not only unconstitutional, it is an insult to every Nigerian who has fought and died for our democracy. We buried the third term agenda in 2006 under Obasanjo, and we will bury it again as many times as it takes.”

The movement urged Nigerians to go wherever they want in the country and exercise their constitutional rights to campaign and vote for their preferred candidates.

“Sunday Igboho does not speak for the Yoruba people. The Yoruba nation is a proud, educated, and democratic people. They will not be reduced to the mouthpiece of one man doing the bidding of those who have impoverished them.

“To every Nigerian: Go wherever you want. Campaign wherever you want. This is YOUR country. We, the Obidients, will stand with you ; in the South-West, in the North, in the East, everywhere. Fear no man. Fear only God and a wasted vote,” the group insisted.
