The Ogun government has said that the visit of Sunday Adeyemi also know as Sunday Igboho, a Yoruba activist to the state scheduled for Monday is not to chase any ethnic group away from Ogun state.

In an interview with Peoples Gazette Sunday evening, a spokesman of the governor, Remi Hazzan said that the government’s welcome extended to Igboho was to make sure that any form of uprising or riot was nipped in the bud.

“We as a government did not invite Sunday Igboho to tackle security issues in the state, Igboho made it clear to all media outlets that he would be visiting Ogun state and our decision to offer him consultation is to nip any form of crisis in the bud. Nobody is welcomed for confrontation in Ogun state,” Mr. Hazzan said.

Mr. Hazzan further added that the gesture extended to the activist is not in any way exclusive to him, he said that the state is willing to consult with anyone who would help get security better than it is.

“Any stakeholder who intends to consult with us as a state to get security a lot better than it is presently is welcomed, not just Sunday Igboho,” he added.

The self-acclaimed freedom fighter and ethnic activist has been in the spotlight in recent weeks over his self-imposed struggle for a better secured Yoruba nation. Most of his statements have stirred tension between ethnic groups and caused unrest in parts of Oyo state.

Mr. Adeyemi is also known for his unconstitutional eviction order given to the Fulanis to vacate Ibarapa areas of Oyo state, an action that the Oyo governor, Seyi Makinde, condemned and denounced.

Governor Makinde maintained that the government is only focused on flushing out criminals, not a particular tribe as criminality is not peculiar to any ethnicity.
