A 27-year-old man, Toheeb Komolafe, was, on Friday, remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre by an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court over an alleged murder.

Mr Komolafe, who is said to be a member of Aiye Confraternity, is facing a five-count charge, bordering on murder, conspiracy, breach of public peace, intent to kill and unlawful society.

The magistrate, Adebayo Adeyeba, ordered the remand of the defendant in the correction centre due to the magnitude of his alleged offences.

He, thereafter, adjourned the case till July 21, for hearing.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Temitope Fatoba, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 20 in the Latona area of Osogbo.

Mr Fatoba said that the defendant, with others now at large, conspired among themselves to attack and kill two persons, namely: Babatunde Olamilekan and Sarafadeen Azeez, for unjust reasons.

“The cultist, with his cohorts, used stones to break the heads of the deceased and also inflicted injuries on one Saka Quadri.

“It was Quadri, who was rescued by the police on arrival at the scene of the event, that gave the information that Komolafe was among those who attacked them and killed the duo.

“The cult group has been unleashing terror in Osogbo town and environs before he (defendant) was apprehended,” he said.

Mr Fatoba said that the offences contravened Sections 516, 320 (1), 517, 64 and 316, and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The plea of the defendant, who had no legal representation, was not taken by the court due to the magnitude of the alleged offences.
