The Ukrainian champion defeated Joshua after 12 rounds in a split decision of 113-115, 115-113 and 116-112 at the arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
In a video of himself doing press-ups posted on Twitter, Joshua wrote, “Out my hands and leave in God’s,” adding a meme of hands lifted in prayers.
“If you know my story, you know I’m the comeback king. You can put me down, but it’s difficult to keep me down,” said Joshua.
Last September, Usyk defeated Joshua, a two-time world champion, claiming the WBA (Super), IBF and WBO heavyweight titles.
Usyk beat Joshua in front of a sell-out crowd in London in September last year to claim the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO belts.
Oleksandr Usyk said he would have the Joshua rematch in his home of Ukraine.
Joshua lost his WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles after suffering a defeat to Usyk Saturday night.
Joshua’s manager Eddie Hearn said a rematch may occur with Usyk because last night’s result was largely about Joshua’s errors and not because Usyk was a better fighter.
Joshua suffered a devastating defeat Saturday night to challenger Oleksandr Usyk, sustaining a suspected broken eye socket aside from losing his world titles.
Joshua lost the fight to Usyk in a unanimous decision by the judges.
