Mr Matawalle will formally defect to APC on Tuesday after securing the governorship seat via a Supreme Court judgement in favour of PDP in 2019.
Mr Matawalle becomes the third governor from the PDP to cross over to the APC since 2019.
Following Twitter’s ban in Nigeria, Bashir Ahmad, Ajuri Ngelale, Tolu Ogunlesi, Philip Obin, Abubakar Sidiq Usman have gone underground.
The Buhari-led administration has been vocal about curbing the spread of fake news despite being caught in a lie on a couple of occasions.
“It was not as if the minister committed any official misconduct. Neither is it for abuse of office nor corrupt enrichment.”
Mr Ahmad has never shied away from fundamental extremism. In 2015, he openly called for the execution of Kano nine for blasphemy.
“An individual can access up to N25 million,” Mr. Ahmad tweeted via his official handle.
Officials said Mr. Ahmad, a presidency social media surrogate, was gleeful about his new appointment at DPR, despite lacking vital training in hydrocarbon regulations.
Similarly, one of the president’s aides Bashir Ahmad was spotted at a friend’s wedding in Bauchi without a face mask or maintaining social distancing.
Ironically, both Messrs. Buhari and Ganduje have long been seen by a plurality of Nigerians as the most corrupt and incompetent leaders the country ever had.
