“I saw flames of fire going up from the police station and INEC offices. But I cannot say whether people were killed or not because I did not go closer,” said the source.
The PDP governors said they were not aware that INEC made any complaints to EFCC on PDP’s returns.
Attacks on INEC offices across the South-East have become commonplace of recent.
He disclosed that firefighters from the state’s fire service put out the fire at about 10:30 p.m.
The police chief stated that security forces prevented the gunmen from burning down the facility on Sunday night.
The commissioner, who did not respond to further questions, said he was at the scene of the incident to save the office from the fire.
“The fire may have been caused by a power surge due to sudden power supply to the building before the incident occurred,” said the police.
Armed men have recently targeted the police, killing scores of officers, setting stations on fire and carting away arms and ammunition.
