Mr Uzodimma received the Torch at the Imo Government House, after being brought into the city by Nigeria’s first Olympic gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa.
Police spokesman in Lagos Benjamin Hundeyin said minimal force was applied by the security operatives to disperse the crowd.
The protesters, who are athletes, were airing displeasure of the alleged removal of some sports from the forthcoming National Sports Festival.
Selected athletes will represent the state at the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Delta.
Earlier scheduled for November, the 13-day tournament will now be held in December.
“The government decided to fulfil the promise made to the athletes because of the honour they brought to the state and to encourage them to do more.”
Hosts Edo, Delta’s nearest challengers, will have to win 21 gold medals at least to upstage them.
At the bottom of the table are Sokoto, Benue, and Kebbi, winning three, two, and two bronze medals, respectively.
“We have been relying on promises that there is an approval. But we don’t know what kind of approval.”
“It is expected that the Edo state government would formally invite the ministry for a meeting should any urgency exist around the National Sports Festival .”
