The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) says the country recorded 216 diphtheria cases and 40 deaths.
Also, among five health workers confirmed infected in the line of duty, one of them died.
The new cases increased Nigeria’s total infections to 266,450 and 3,155 deaths since the pandemic outbreak in 2019.
A total of 583 deaths were recorded, while 23,550 people were suspected to have been infected between January and November 2022.
The president is expected to deliver a statement at the summit, and meet separately with President Yoon Suk-yeol of the Republic of Korea.
The likelihood of “importation to Nigeria is high due to the increased air travel between Nigeria and Uganda, especially through Kenya’s Nairobi airport.”
Lagos State topped the list with 15 cases, while Abia and Ogun recorded five cases each.
The NCDC said that there were ongoing efforts to strengthen surveillance at national and sub-national levels to increase awareness.
The NCDC said since the beginning of 2022, 70 per cent of infections had come from Ondo (31 per cent), Edo (26 per cent), and Bauchi (13 per cent).
