Mr Blinken is on the second stop of a four-nation tour of Africa, taking him to Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, and Angola from January 21 to 26.
“The government of Côte d’Ivoire has spent more than US$1 billion to organise it,” the envoy said.
He added that these primary assets and advantages are what Nigeria wields over other nations.
He was long remembered – and in some parts reviled – for his role in promoting the issue of “ivoirite,” or Ivorian identity.
Former president of Côte d’Ivoire, Laurent Gbagbo, has boarded a flight in Brussels to return home for the first time since he was ousted from power in 2011.
