A Kaduna magistrates’ court on Wednesday ordered that a labourer, Jamilu Ado, be flogged for stealing clothes worth N50,000.
The convict was arrested following actionable intelligence about fraudster syndicates operating in Ungwan Sarki and its environs.
The magistrate ordered Abdullahi to pay N380, 000 as compensation to the complainant, Jamilu Kamal.
The defendant is standing trial on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and stealing.
Mr Haruna prayed the court for leniency and vowed to refrain from such acts.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The defendant invited his victim, who happened to be his neighbour’s daughter, into his room before defiling her.
Awemi Maisamari said all witnesses so far emphasised how a helicopter was used to coordinate the attack, and the details they supplied have been documented.
Emmanuel, however, ordered two court officials to give the convict 12 strokes of the cane.
