A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of 39-year-old Salisu Abubakar in a correction centre for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s eight-year-old daughter.

The police charged Mr Abubakar, a trader who lives in Ungwan Sarki Kaduna for defilement.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, did not take the plea of Mr Abubakar for want of jurisdiction.

Mr Emmanuel held that the remand is pending legal advice from the office of the Kaduna State Ministry of Justice, and adjourned the matter until August 16, for hearing.

The prosecutor, Chidi Leo, told the court that the offence was committed in Mr Abubakar’s residence.

Inspector Leo said that the defendant invited his victim, who happened to be his neighbour’s daughter, into his room.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 206 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017 (as amended).
