Governor Hope Uzodimma has set up a security committee ahead of a planned security conference in Imo as the state continues to grapple with unknown gunmen.
The so-called Niger Delta Freedom Reserve Force said the CBN governor is the only credible politician with the capacity to resolve Nigeria’s myriad crises.
“The gunmen said they are enforcing the sit-at-home declared in protest of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Ebonyi.”
The victims who were kidnapped at about 10:00 p.m. on Monday, were on their way home after attending a traditional wedding.
“We cannot allow the killing of innocent citizens and the activities of non-state actors in the form of criminals…to overtake the political space.”
Mr Buhari called on Imo people and other Igbos to maintain peace.
The demonstration followed the killing of Aga Citi, the state Vice-Chairman of Timber Sellers Association, by unknown gunmen on March 10.
Witnesses said armed men in a Sienna car and Lexus Jeep opened fire on the unsuspecting policemen on duty.
“The mobile police officers returned fire immediately, engaged the hoodlums who made the gunmen flee the scene. The hoodlums escaped from the scene…”
“It is our desire to finish strong in the next 16 months and ensure all hands are on deck for the last lap.”
