Teenager electrocuted while fetching water from well in Ogun

A naked wire of a pumping machine embedded into the wall has electrocuted a 15-year-old girl, identified as Miracle Ogbonna, in Olomore Housing Estate, Abeokuta.
The state police command’s public relations officer, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a press release shared on the command’s official X handle on Monday.
Ms Odutola said one Onyekachi Silas told the divisional police officer of Lafenwa that his younger brother informed him on Sunday that the teenager, also his (younger brother) niece, residing with them, went to fetch water at the well when there was a power outage.
“In the process of Miracle fetching water, power was restored by IBEDC,” said Ms Odutola. “Miracle was tragically electrocuted by a naked cable wire of the pumping machine imbedded in the well.”
The police spokesperson said the teenager was immediately rushed to the hospital, where the doctor confirmed her dead.
She said the corpse had been deposited at the morgue in Oke Lantoro as the investigation was ongoing.
Ms Odutola added, “No further details yet, about the negligent circumstances of imbedding a naked wire into a well.”
